A very charming antique plate that is typical of southern Italian ceramics.
Dating back to the 1800s, the XL platter features metal staples on the back, as seen in the images. Before the availability of adhesives, pottery was repaired using this traditional method. These domestic pieces of pottery were considered valuable pieces to the family, and would be repaired rather than thrown away. The old farmhouse pottery from Puglia, like this large platter, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. Primarily used to serve a family during meal times, where they would have eaten off the same plate beginning with the father and ending with the children. The antique plate shows signs of its years of use and has developed a wonderful patina over time.
